Habitat for Humanity ReStore Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary

Las Cruces, NM (June 7, 2017) – Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the ten year anniversary of its Habitat ReStore on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The media and the public is invited to join ReStore staff and volunteers in the festivities which includes ribbon cutting, sales, prizes, food and drink while they last, and an opportunity to support Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity.

The ReStore's grand opening was on June 18, 2007, making it one of the first ReStore locations in Southern New Mexico. Thanks to generous donors and loyal customers, the revenue from ReStore has sponsored ten Habitat homes in the last ten years. "This celebration will also serve as a 'thank you' to our customers, local businesses, and the community that has welcomed and supported us" said James Allison, ReStore Manager. "I'm very proud and honored to be a part of not only a great organization, but also this exciting 10th anniversary celebration. We look forward to serving the community for many more years to come."

Since our beginning, the ReStore has also kept approximately 4.5 million pounds of building materials and household goods out of our local landfills. It proudly serves as a place for individuals to donate items when they remodel their home or area business, when they have unwanted items, or when their families downsize. "Our ReStore is multi-purpose. Habitat ReStore keeps unwanted and reusable goods and building materials out of landfills, diverting them into home building, remodeling and creative art projects. Not only does this make ReStore a valuable resource to the community by providing an environmentally friendly disposal option, but it also directs all proceeds from sales in the ReStore back to building affordable homes in our community" said Maria Vasquez, Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity Executive Director. "Every sale and every item donated allows us to make safe, decent, and affordable housing a reality for families in our community. It is a way for everyone in our community to be involved in the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live."
