Las Cruces, NM (April 28, 2017) — Four Las Cruces families received the keys to their new homes on Friday in a dedication ceremony celebrating the completion of the latest homes built by Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity. The new homeowners, the Chavez, Hersey, Ojeda and Trujillo families, thanked all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal. The event was open to the public.
Through donations of money, materials, and volunteer labor, Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity was able to build the homes and sell them at an affordable price. The families purchased the homes with a no-interest loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to support Habitat’s work. The featured event also included a Ribbon Cutting and Proclamation by the Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, dedication of children’s bedroom furniture (donated by Las Cruces Rio Grande Rotary Club), and hand-made quilts (donated by Morning Star United Methodist Quilters).
Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity is a local, non-profit, self-help organization assisting families in the community to build and purchase decent homes that they would not otherwise be able to afford.
