Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity’s 911 Build

Las Cruces, NM (January 13th) — Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity has invited law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders in the community to come together in an effort to build affordable homes for local families with its community project: “9-1-1 Build”; which will take place January 14 th-18 th of 2014 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at 4718 Whitney Place, Las Cruces, NM, 88012. The event kick-off will take place on Tuesday January 14 at 8:00am at the above mentioned address, which sits next to three more Habitat homes currently under construction. During this five-day event, participants and community partners for this event include: Dona Ana County Fire and Emergency Services, Las Cruces Police Department, American Medical Response, Air Force Detachment 4, Metropolitan Deli, Farley’s, Subway; as well as many others.

Our goal for this is simple: involve excellent agencies dedicated to public safety and security to join us for a fun day of building. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity relies on support from volunteers within the community and locally raised funds to purchase land and building supplies to make the program work successfully. Many people are unaware that Habitat doesn't "give houses away”. Partner families who are chosen receive a no-interest mortgage, making homeownership a reality for hardworking families of moderate income. Partner family members also donate hundreds of hours of their time along with many volunteers to build their home and the homes of others.

We welcome the public servants in our community to get involved by volunteering for a day of building, making a group or unit financial contribution, and an opportunity to show your support towards affordable housing during January 2014. If you are interested in joining our other agencies in contributing and/or participating in our “9-1-1 Build”, and/or need more information, please contact Maria Vasquez, Operations Coordinator, at (575)525-0475.
